As Engineering Manager in the Interop team, you are responsible for teams providing API-based access to the core blocks of data, both internally and externally. You will regularly work on enterprise API creation, ACL management, distributed systems, API gateways, and high-throughput data services. There is a strong focus on collaboration with service domain owners from across the organization to provide strong contracts and SLOs/SLIs.
What will you do?
- Manage a team of engineers developing readable, well-tested applications, APIs, and libraries
- Develop and maintain a strong engineering culture within the team, in both technical and social components
- Ensure the delivery of technical initiatives through design to iterative development phases
- Establish clear requirements for engineering projects in coordination with a Product Manager
- Evaluate engineering design proposals in a technical capacity
- Evaluate and develop the technical performance of individual contributors
- Guide engineers through their career progression and personal growth
- Mentor junior engineers
- Uphold engineering standards in terms of software and systems quality and performance
- Work with engineering teams across the organization
Requirements
- 6+ years of software engineering experience
- 2+ years of direct people management experience (includes lead experience)
- Extensive prior work with cloud-based systems
- Broad experience developing high-throughput backend systems, at the infrastructure and software levels
- Deep understanding of observability concepts and tooling
- Strong ability to review, write and evaluate code
- Experience as a hiring manager
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Preferred
- Experience with Java, Golang or Kotlin
- Experience with API gateways
- Extensive experience with API-based service design
- Experience with Amazon AWS services
- Understanding of distributed systems, asynchronicity, and message-based architectures
- Bachelors in Computer Science or a related field
