Want to help build the future of connected healthcare technology used by millions of patients worldwide?
Our client, a global leader in medical technology, is building out a major software engineering function in Galway and is looking for a deeply technical Principal Software Engineer / Technical Architect to help shape the next generation of its connected cardiac care platforms.
This is not a pure governance or “PowerPoint architecture” role.
We’re looking for someone who still enjoys getting into the technical detail of designing scalable systems, solving complex engineering problems, mentoring strong teams, and helping drive high engineering standards across cloud, platform, and connected-device ecosystems.
You’ll operate at the intersection of architecture, technical leadership, and hands-on engineering influence within a global R&D environment, delivering software that genuinely impacts patient lives.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Drive architecture and technical direction across large-scale cloud and connected healthcare platforms
- Work closely with engineering teams on system design, scalability, reliability, and platform evolution
- Influence technical decisions across software, cloud, DevOps, data, mobile, IoT, and AI-enabled systems
- Help modernise engineering practices, tooling, observability, and platform lifecycle management
- Partner with teams across Ireland, the US, and India within a highly collaborative global environment
- Mentor and develop senior engineering talent while raising technical standards across the organisation
- Contribute to architectural governance, technical decision-making, and engineering strategy
- Support secure-by-design, reliability, and cybersecurity best practices within regulated environments
What We’re Looking For
You’ll likely come from a strong software engineering or platform engineering background and still enjoy being close to the technology.
Typical backgrounds that could fit:
- Principal Engineer
- Staff Engineer
- Technical Lead
- Lead Architect
- Senior Software Architect
- Platform Architect
You should bring:
- Strong experience designing and building distributed software systems
- Deep technical knowledge across cloud-native architectures, microservices, APIs, DevOps, and modern engineering practices
- Experience with technologies such as Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, .NET, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Azure, or GCP
- A strong systems-thinking mindset around scalability, resilience, observability, and maintainability
- Experience influencing engineering direction within complex technical organisations
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Why This Role Stands Out
This is an opportunity to join a genuinely high-impact engineering environment where the technology has real-world meaning.
The software platforms you help shape support clinicians and patients globally in managing life-critical cardiac therapies.
You’ll work alongside strong international engineering teams, influence large-scale technical decisions, and help shape the future direction of a rapidly growing software organisation here in Galway.
The environment suits engineers who enjoy solving difficult technical challenges while remaining connected to the real engineering work and not just managing from a distance.
