CompuStaff is recruiting a Software Engineer on behalf of our client, a leading global SaaS company with a growing R&D centre in Galway. This is a strong opportunity to join an expanding engineering team working on modern cloud-based products, platform evolution, and a major AI-led transformation programme.
This role is particularly suited to someone who enjoys backend and full-stack development and is comfortable working across both PHP and C#/.NET environments. PHP development is a key part of the role, not just a nice-to-have.
About the company
Our client provides SaaS platforms, payments technology, digital engagement tools, and operational software for organisations across international markets.
Their Galway R&D centre is a key global hub for AI and product engineering. The team is expanding as the business delivers a multi-year transformation of its product portfolio, with a strong focus on cloud, AI-native development, scalability, and modern engineering practices.
The role
You’ll join a collaborative engineering team building and improving scalable SaaS applications used by a large international customer base.
You’ll work across existing and evolving platforms, contributing to new features, APIs, backend services, frontend development, and platform modernisation. The environment includes both modern PHP applications and C#/.NET services, so we’re looking for someone who can bring strength in one and confidence, or genuine interest, in the other.
This is a hands-on engineering role where clean code, good communication, problem-solving, and practical delivery all matter.
What you’ll be doing
- Design, build, test, and maintain software across PHP and C#/.NET applications.
- Develop and maintain scalable APIs and backend services.
- Work on modern PHP applications, ideally PHP 7 or later.
- Build and enhance C#/.NET services, ideally using .NET Core or .NET 6+.
- Collaborate with Product, UX, QA, and Engineering teams to deliver high-quality features.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code.
- Take part in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and improve application performance.
- Support the delivery of new features and enhancements across the product suite.
- Contribute to technical discussions around architecture, scalability, and platform improvement.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone with strong software engineering experience who can work across a mixed technology environment.
You’ll likely bring:
- 6+ years’ professional software development experience.
- Strong experience with PHP development, ideally modern PHP applications.
- Strong experience with C# and .NET, ideally .NET Core or .NET 6+.
- Experience building RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Experience with SQL Server or other relational databases.
- Experience with Git and modern development workflows.
- Frontend experience with React, React Native, Angular, or similar.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and performance optimisation skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative team.
Useful extras
Experience with any of the following would be useful, but not essential:
- React or React Native.
- SignalR, Redis, Event Bus, or Kafka.
- Kubernetes or containerised environments.
- Azure or AWS cloud services.
- Angular or other modern frontend frameworks.
Why this role is worth a look
This is a great opportunity if you want more than a narrow “one-stack-only” development role.
You’ll get exposure to a growing SaaS product portfolio, a mixed PHP and C#/.NET environment, cloud platforms, frontend development, and an AI-focused product transformation. You’ll be joining a Galway R&D team with real international influence and plenty of scope to broaden your technical range.
What’s on offer
- Hybrid working from Galway.
- Competitive salary package.
- Opportunity to work on international SaaS products.
- Exposure to PHP, C#/.NET, React, cloud, APIs, and modern engineering practices.
- Career growth as the Galway R&D team expands.
- Collaborative team culture with strong technical ambition.
