Recruiter Name Ronan O'Sullivan

Our client, a growing healthcare technology company, is building out its engineering team in Galway and is looking for a Senior PHP Software Engineer to help evolve a customer-critical platform.

This is a hands-on senior engineering role focused on modernising legacy PHP into well-structured Laravel services while helping drive engineering standards, scalability, and reliability across a multi-tenant SaaS platform.

What you’ll be doing

  • Build new features in Laravel while progressively refactoring and modernising legacy PHP code.
  • Help shape the migration strategy using pragmatic incremental approaches rather than risky “big bang” rewrites.
  • Improve performance across APIs, services, and databases by optimising queries, data access, and legacy schemas.
  • Strengthen multi-tenant architecture, security, permissions, and auditability.
  • Drive engineering quality through code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD discipline, and clean design patterns.
  • Work closely with Product, QA, and Operations teams to deliver stable, predictable releases.
  • Act as a senior technical contributor and lead developer within a full-stack scrum team.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong commercial experience with PHP and Laravel in production environments.
  • A proven background modernising legacy systems and untangling complex codebases.
  • Strong SQL and database optimisation skills, including working with imperfect or heavily evolved schemas.
  • Good understanding of APIs, authentication patterns (OAuth/JWT), queues/background jobs, and SaaS platform architecture.
  • Experience with cloud environments such as AWS, containerisation, CI/CD pipelines, and production debugging.
  • Someone pragmatic and engineering-focused who values maintainability, delivery, and continuous improvement over chasing shiny tech.
  • Experience working in multi-tenant SaaS environments would be a strong advantage.

Why this role stands out

You’ll join a business where the software genuinely matters. The platform directly supports healthcare delivery, so the engineering challenges are real and the impact is tangible.

There’s strong backing, a collaborative culture, and plenty of scope to influence architecture, standards, and technical direction as the platform continues to evolve.

It’s also the kind of environment where experienced engineers tend to thrive — smart technical problems, modernisation work that actually gets prioritised, and no endless committee theatre slowing things down.

Hybrid working and a competitive package on offer.
